On July 8, the Mass Transportation Authority Flint launched Genesee Connect, an on-demand ride-share service that provides additional transportation in Flint and Grand Blanc.
The Genesee Connect zone uses bus routes eight and 11 to transport users to areas such as Bishop International Airport and Interstate 75. It also includes grocery stores such as Kroger and Costco in Flint Township and Walmart and Aldi in Grand Blanc.
Users can schedule a ride from Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through the MTA SmartMove app or by calling their phone number.
The price for this service has a base pay of $2.50 for up to 4 miles, then 40¢ per mile after that. Credit or debit cards can be added through the app or cash can be added to an account through the customer service desk at the MTA Northup-Abrams Transportation Center in the Hill Rd Corridor zone.
Transportation is wheelchair-accessible or can seat four people. The ride can pick up and drop off users curbside or near business entrances.
More areas are said to be added in the future, although the date is currently unknown.
