C.S. Mott Foundation commits $25 million to expanding trails across Flint

The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation pledged $25 million to add 364 miles worth of trail across the city of Flint and the Genesee County area.

In a press release on June 18, the C.S. Mott Foundation marked its 100th anniversary by pledging $25 million, $5 million a year, over the next five years to expand non-motorized trails and walkways across Flint and Genesee County.

On June 17th, the C.S. Mott Foundation also granted $1.2 million to support construction of the Grand Traverse Greenway Trail, which will connect the new state park to neighborhoods in the south of Flint.

These grants, also known as The Legacy Trail program,  build upon The Healthy, Happy, and Resilient Communities by 2030 plan that was adopted by the City of Flint in March of 2026.

“We’re proud to make this significant commitment to help Flint and Genesee County residents of all ages enjoy physical activity, while also accessing schools, parks, jobs and neighborhoods,” Ridgway White, president and CEO of the C.S. Mott Foundation, said in the press release.

Plans to construct new trails are already underway, with the program hoping to extend beyond 2030.
